Different Ways to Help

Sadly, the number of dogs in need of urgent assistance constantly exceeds the ability of rescues to place and provide for them. Many dogs continue to be euthanized each day due to the lack of help available to save them. Ontario Canine Rescue’s volunteers are committed to saving the lives of dogs in need and are happy to accept any assistance that you may be able to provide, and there are a number of ways to help.

If you have a special ability or suggestion on ways to help which are not listed here, feel free to contact us.

Be sure to do your part to control the pet population by spaying or neutering your own pet.

Become a Foster Home

We receive calls and emails from pounds and shelters daily saying that there are amazing dogs in their care but, due to overcrowding and a lack of adopters, euthanasia is their only fate. Only the very lucky will have an adopter come along in time to save them from this undeserved fate. That is where a foster home comes in. We place these dogs with our generous foster homes while we work very hard to find the right forever home to adopt these dogs.

All dogs are altered, and up to date with shots before they enter foster care.

As a foster home, there are many ways you can help save these dogs!

• On going foster home - take in adult dogs on a regular basis

• Puppy foster home - take in puppies

• Emergency foster placement home - hold dogs for short periods while placement is found

• Seasonal foster home - i.e. in the summer when you are off work, etc.

Most dogs are in the medium to large size and will remain in the foster home until they are adopted, which may take anywhere from a week or two, to several months depending on the dogs needs. We match the dog with your specific requirements, lifestyle and home environment to ensure the easiest transition for both you and the dog.

We have an extensive waiting list of dogs in immediate need of fostering and adoption. For every one dog you foster we are able to pull another one off death row. If you are interested in opening up you heart and home to a dog in need, please complete our Foster Application

Sponsor a Dog

By sponsoring a particular pet your donation goes directly for that pet's needs whether it be to pay for food, special training or medical requirements. Your sponsorship will directly enhance the well being of that particular dog.

To become a sponsor email us at info@ontariocaninerescue.com and let us know what pet you would like to sponsor. We will email you with the particular needs of your chosen companion animal and details on how you can help.

Every sponsor will receive a special thanks on that dogs bio.

Most of all sponsoring enables you to know exactly how your donation is being used.
